TOP 10 WAYS TO FUNDRAISE

  1. SING-A-THON  A musical event that helps your church raise money. You can charge admission to the singing festivities and sell concessions throughout the event. You can also create a request system where other congregants can ask for particular worship songs by donating a few dollars to the choir director or song leader.

  2. THRIFT SHOP  Designate a Sunday school classroom or an office to be your “store.” Then, have people donate their gently used clothing, books, home goods, and knick-knacks. You then resell the items to other members of your church or community. Whatever you don’t sell can be donated to a thrift store or homeless shelter to be put to good use.

  3. CHILI COOKOFF  All you have to do is get your best chili chefs in the parish to cook a pot of their delicious stew. Then, sell tickets to your congregation and community members to taste each one! They can vote with their dollars on which chili they like the best. The winner can receive a small prize or trophy, and your church or group ends up raising a lot of money!

  4. SPONSOR ME!  Have students make a 1 page document with their picture, short bio, why they want to attend the event and information on how to pay. Post the pages in a well-trafficked area and parishioners can select

  5. ENVELOPE FUNDRAISER  Write numbers (starting with 1) on the front of the envelopes. You can use as many envelopes as you want; many churches choose to use 100. Then, pin the envelopes to a bulletin board in a heavily-trafficked area. People choose an envelope and have to donate whatever number is on the outside. If you have only 100 envelopes, you can raise $5,050. That number goes up to $11,325 if you have 150 envelopes!

  6. PUMPKIN PATCH  Solicit donations for pumpkins. Select a day to set up the pumpkins on a field or parish grounds. Charge a fee per person to enter the pumpkin patch and get a pumpkin. (consider offering different packages along with the pumpkin that includes other fall goodies e.g hot cocoa or apple cider, baked goods, activity kits) *bonus combine this day with a thrift shop and families can shop after picking a pumpkin!

  7. HOST A PARENTS PARTY  If your congregation has a lot of families, you can host a parents’ party while you watch the kids. Hosting a parents’ party is an excellent way to give mom and dad a night out with their friends while you raise money! All you’ll need to do is charge a small amount and set up a fun night of food and drinks for parents. You can even get volunteers to look after the children so that parents don’t have to pay extra money for a babysitter.

  8. AUCTION  An auction is a fun and energizing, face-to-face fundraising idea. Besides allowing you to interact with your congregants in an interesting way, it is also a great opportunity to network with local businesses by gathering charity auction items. Get local businesses to donate a variety of items. Hire an auctioneer, promote the event, and cater some food and drinks. Make sure everyone is aware of the rules beforehand. You can also make the auction silent. Auctions require a couple of months of preparation, but they are worth the time if organized well. To add an interesting spin to auctions, you can auction experiences and not just physical items. If you’d rather avoid raising items from local businesses, you can host art auctions. Get congregants and members of your local community to draw, paint, sculpt and agree to donate their work for the purposes of fundraising for your church. There’s bound to be a couple of congregants and members who are talented artists.

  9. STUFF FOR BUCKS  Everyone has stuff they don’t need lying around their house. Your church can use congregants’ unwanted goods to raise money and give the unwanted stuff a new home (yay for sustainability)! These work similarly to yard sales. Some church fundraising ideas to do this include:

    1. Books for Bucks: Get your congregants to donate used books, magazines, and comic books that they do not intend to re-read and you can sell them to the community.

    2. Shoe Drive: Get your congregants to drop off their gently worn shoes and find a company that will pay for the shoes you collect.

    3. Clothes Drive: Give your congregants the chance to swap clothes with each other and appreciate old clothes anew. Ask your congregants to round up clothes they no longer wear with prices in mind. Set up the clothes in the designated area and invite everyone in your church to be a part of the sale.

Make sure you have a way to collect the funds and provide receipts for your donors.

  1. PAY TO PLAY SPORTS DAY  Host sports events, such as a day of tournament play or pay-to-play sports challenges. You can also host a 5k for the runners/walkers in the church. Set up a fee for each runner.
